Eps Advance to NESCAC Finals by beating Amherst and Middlebury 6-3, 5-4

Williamstown, MA -- This afternoon, the Ephs played two great matches in order to defeat two NESCAC rivals. At 12:00 PM, the men took an early lead to cruise to victory. Kevin Chen '15 (#2), Chris Wilkinson '15 (#3), Galen Squiers '16 (#5), John Shuck '17 (#6), and Varun Sharma '16 (#8) all won their matches in order to secure the match for the Ephs early on.

At five in the afternoon, the Ephs took on the Middlebury Panthers for a spot in the finals against the winner of Bates and Trinity. Right from the beginning, everybody knew it would be a very close match. The first round of matches was tough for the Ephs, as Nick Greaves-Tunell '15 (#9) and Chris Wilkinson lost in close four game matches. John Shuck was able to maintain his 10 match winning streak by downing his opponent in five games, making the match score 2-1 in favor of the Panthers.

In the second round of matches, Jamie Havran '18 (#8) played outstanding squash in order to defeat his opponent in a convincing three games. Galen Squiers and Kevin Chen also won, giving the Ephs a 4-2 lead. In the final round, Jamie Ruggiero '17 (#1) was able to give the Ephs their final point by downing his opponent in four games. Coach Levy said about the match: "I am really pleased with the performance today against Middlebury and Amherst. I am especially pleased with the wins from Jamie Havran who played fantastic squash today, and Galen Squiers who had a great win. Going to the final of NESCAC's is a major goal of our team and i am thrilled that we achieved that goal this year!"

Tomorrow morning the Ephs will take on the Trinity Bantams in hopes of winning their first NESCAC title.
