Men's Squash Defeats #22 M.I.T.

WIlliamstown, MA -- The Williams men's squash team defeated the M.I.T. Beavers 9-0 on Sunday night at the Simon Squash Center. John Fitzgerald '19 once again lead to way for the Ephs filling it at the #1 spot for injured Jamie Ruggiero '17. 

In the first round of matches, Ben Eisenberg '19 and John Shuck '17 went down 2-0, but stormed back to win a pair of five gamers.

John Shuck '17  said after his victory, "I credit our coaches Zafi and Blair for getting Ben and I back in the right frame of mind. We both had tough starts and their words between games were critical." On court two, Claude Smith '20 won his match in four games.

After the first matches finished, Carl Shuck '20 put down his opponent, letting up only 8 combined points. Carl attributed his success to his ability to move his opponent around the court. On court two, Will Ruggiero won his second match in a row in four games.

The last group of matches clinched the shutout with three victories. Neel Jain '19 handily beat Dominic Hansford at the #7 spot. As did John Fitzgerald '19 at the #1 spot. In the final match of the day, Mason Elizando defeated Nikhil Punwaney in a long five games.

Eph head coach Zafi Levy was impressed by both the Ephs and the Beavers performance. "The score does not really give the MIT boys the credit they deserve. We had to work hard all afternoon to come with the win, apart from 3 matches, all the others were really a dog fight. I am pleased with the team's fitness and look forward to more training."

The win wraps up the 2016 portion of the schedule for the Ephs, who will return to a weekend of matches on the 6th, 7th, and 8th of January.
