Ephmen (#19) fall to George Washington University (#12) 7-2

WASHINGTON, D.C., - Today, the men's squash team fell in a hard fought battle to the George Washington Colonials 7 games to 2. This is the second of three big matches in a 3 match weekend for the Ephmen.

With the women's team in the lower set of three courts in the building and the men in the upper courts playing a three court system, the men were set for a match on hot courts. In the first round of matches 3, 6, 9, Will Means '20, Claude Smith '20 and Andrew Litvin '18 fought hard to establish a winning precedent. Andrew Litvin came back from down 2 games to 1 to win in 5, but unfortunately both Means and Smith lost against their opponents.

In the second round of 2, 5, 8, John Fitzgerald '19 fell to a talented Irish native at the 2 spot.Carl Shuck '20 was able to clinch his second match of the weekend at the 5 spot. He is looking to score a third win against Navy tomorrow. At the 8 spot, 6'3 Mason Elizondo '18 lost to an even taller 6'5 opponent, with barely enough space on the court for both of them.

In the last round of matches, 1, 4, 7, Jamie Ruggiero '17 unfortunately had to retire at the 1 spot due to a injured ankle. At the 4 spot, John Shuck '17 played the previous number 1 for the Colonials who after a year of injury came back at the 4 spot. The Cairo native returned in strong form to defeat the Eph's seasoned senior. Will Ruggiero '19 fell in the last match at the 7 spot in the 7-2 defeat.

Captain Jamie Ruggiero said of the match, "Although we fell to a better team today, we are in strong form for our rival match against Navy tomorrow."

The Ephs continue their Mid-Atlantic roadtrip tomorrow in Annapolis, MD, where the team will play the Naval Academy at 12pm.
