#17 Bates Defeats #19 Williams 8-1

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – The Bates College men's squash team ranked 17th nationally downed 19th ranked Williams 8-1 this afternoon in the Simon Squash Center.

With the win Bates improved to 6-3 on the year, while the Ephs fell to 6-4 and saw a three-match win streak extinguished.

Three matches went to a fifth game and two others went to four games.

The lone Eph victory came at #8, where first year Claude Smith prevailed in 4 games.

Sophomore John Fitzgerald at #2 lost in five games and the fifth game was decided at 12-0, as was true at #3 where first year Will Means was defeated 12-10 in the final game.

Sophomore Andrew Litvin also fell in a 5-game match with his fifth match score coming in at 11-7.

"We are disappointed," said Eph head coach Zafi Levy. "Bates is a top team but today we lost so many close matches that we could and should have won. The boys played so hard but we just could not close out those close matches. We look forward to next weekend playing against some tough competition. We will keep working hard to improve and gain more confidence."

The Ephs will hit the road for three away matches next weekend. Friday they will play at Franklin & Marshall, Saturday they will be at George Washington University, and on Sunday they will play Navy.
