Men's squash claims 4th at NESCAC tournament

AMHERST, MA - The men's squash team fell today in a 5-4 loss to rival Middlebury in the closely contested 3/4 playoff. The men go home after a 2 day weekend of tough matches with 4th place in the NESCACs.

Playing on the five court system, John Fitzgerald '19, Carl Shuck '20, Will Ruggiero '19, Claude Smith '20, and Andrew Litvin '18 were up at the plate first. The match began with high tensions to claim the 3rd spot. Off the court first was Carl Shuck, who claimed a 3-0 victory against his opponent to put the score at 1-0. However, Claude Smith fell shortly after to put the score at 1-1. Following suit, Andrew Litvin and Will Ruggiero fell in four, but not without a fight. With a more attritional victory then coming at the 2 spot from John Fitzgerald, the score lay at 2-3.

Next on court were Jamie Ruggiero '17, Will Means '20, John Shuck '17, and Mason Elizondo '18. Unfortunately, Mason was quick to fall to his opponent and the match drew 2-4. While Jamie Ruggiero claimed a 3-0 victory at the 1 spot, John Shuck eventually fell to his opponent to close out the match. Will Means, the last player on court, finished his match with a victory, making the score 5-4 Middlebury.

The team will travel to Dartmouth College on Wednesday in their last regular season match before Nationals on February 17.
