WILLIAMSTOWN, MA - The Ephs fought hard but in the end were beaten 7-2 by a strong Navy side on Friday.
Leading off for the Ephs were sophomores Will Means (#3) and Claude Smith (#6), joined by junior Will Ruggiero (#9). Smith and Means were both defeated by tough opponents, Smith by a score of 3-0 and Means by a score of 3-1. Ruggiero played a battle at the #9 spot, but was ultimately beaten in five tough games. Next up for the Ephs were sophomores Carl Shuck (#2) and David Pincus (#5), as well as junior Anand Butler (#8). In a great match, Shuck fought his way to a 3-2 win to earn the Ephs their first point of the match. Pincus went up against a strong Navy opponent and was beaten in three games. Butler played another tight match, splitting the first two games, but was ultimately defeated by a 3-1 score. Last on were junior John Fitzgerald (#1), freshman Wyatt Khosrowshahi (#4), and junior Ben Eisenberg (#7). Eisenberg was beaten by a 3-0 scoreline. Fitzgerald and Khosrowshahi played another pair of five game battles for the Ephs, with Fitzgerald finishing just short while Khosrowshahi was able to pull off the victory to earn the Ephs their second point of the day.
The Ephs look forward to tomorrow's encounter with GW at noon before facing F&M on Sunday at noon to round off an action-packed weekend of squash.
