Ephs Squash Downs Bates Bobcats 7-2

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA - Men's Squash returned to the Simon Squash Center at 2:00 p.m. to face the Bates Bobcats. One of the key matches for this season for NESCAC standings, the Ephs rose to the occasion, converting close four-game and five-game matches. From the onset, the Ephs went up 2-0 with clinical three-game finishes from co-captain Ben Eisenberg '19 (#9) and Krish Bhavnani '22 (#6). In a 90-minute thriller, Wyatt Khosrowshahi '21 (#3) overcame a missed opportunity to close the match in four games with a clutch fifth game performance, which was 11-8.

The Bobcats answered with wins at #5 and #2. Jacob Bassil '22 (#5) played a talented opponent and was narrowly upset 11-6 in the fifth game. Carl Shuck '20 (#2) also played a skilled Bobcats opponent, exchanging point for point in the second, third and fourth games but was edged 3-1. Concluding the second round of matches, David Pincus '21 (#8) came back from a 2-0 deficit and a match ball at 10-9 in the fifth to give the Ephs much needed momentum to go up 4-2, one point from victory.

A.J. Solecki '21 (#7) was on his form, controlling the court and sealing the match for the Ephs at 5-2. William Means '20 (#4) defeated his opponent in a convincing four games adding to the score at 6-2 Ephs. In the last match of the day, Co-Captain John Fitzgerald '19 (#1) came back from one game down to hold off his opponent with a 3-1 win, making the final score 7-2 Ephs.

Coach Zafi Levy commented on the performance: "Very proud of the Men's Team delivering this important win in front of the parents, alumni, and supporters of Williams Squash. I am pleased overall but we will keep working hard in practice for big upcoming matches". 

Men's Squash will end the weekend of matches with a match against Colby tomorrow at the Simon Squash Center at 12:00pm.
