WATERVILLE, ME - The Ephs (7-3) finished off a 3-0 weekend in Maine with a 6-3 win against Colby (3-2) on Sunday.
The first wave of play featured junior Wyatt Khosrowshahi (#2), senior co-captain Carl Shuck (#5), and senior David Pincus (#8). Shuck and Pincus each put in classy performances throughout and were 3-0 victors. Meanwhile, Khosrowshahi got off to a slower start, finding himself on the brink of defeat multiple times down 2-0 in games and then 10-8 match ball into the fourth game, before miraculously clawing his way back to win in the fifth, and give the Ephs a 3-0 lead.
With hopes of securing the match, sophomore Jacob Bassil (#1), junior AJ Solecki (#6), and senior co-captain Claude Smith (#9) took to the court. Bassil and Smith both had off days against tough opponents, losing out 3-0 and 3-1 respectively. Not to be deterred, Solecki, a consistent rock in the middle court this season, delivered yet another win with a 3-1 triumph to take the Ephs to a 4-2 lead.
Needing one last point to close out the victory, freshman Udai Pal (#3), senior co-captain Will Means (#4), and freshman Charles "Chas" Merrill stepped up for their matchups. Thankfully for the Ephs, Pal and Means were each up to the task and delivered a pair of 3-1 wins to more than close out the match. Merrill, clearly fatigued from a pair of five game battles yesterday, fell by a 3-0 scoreline.
The Ephs head back to Williamstown in preparation for a big home weekend, starting with a 5pm matchup with the Naval Academy.
