Ephs Tie Amherst 0-0

Box Score

AMHERST, MA -- The Williams College Ephs (7-4-2, 4-2-1 NESCAC) faced the Amherst Mammoths (8-3-3, 3-2-2 NESCAC) tonight at Amherst. Despite battling for all three periods and overtime, neither team was able to score, with the game ending in a 0-0 tie.

The first period was uneventful, with no penalties or goals. Both teams took shot after shot on the other goal but Williams goalie Chloe Heiting and Caitlin Walker for the Mammoths ensured that neither team was able to fund the net.

In the second period, the Ephs were able to kill off a tripping penalty with some great saves from Heiting and special teams. The Ephs were later given their own power play opportunity in this period but were unable to get the puck past Walker.

The third period started with the end of another great penalty kill form the Ephs for a tripping penalty at the end of the previous period. For the remainder of the period, despite another power play opportunity for the Ephs, neither team was able to score.

The game then went into overtime, during which Amherst had to play a man down after a penalty for too many men on the ice. However, the game remained tied to the very end of overtime.

By the end of the game, the Ephs had outshot the Mammoths 43-34 and both goalies Heiting and Amherst's Walker saved every one.

"Chloe Heiting made some amazing saves through the screens and deflections to keep the game tied" said head coach Meghan Gillis, "I thought we generated a good amount of shots on goal, but not as many scoring chances as we would have liked. "

The Ephs look to top the Mammoths tomorrow afternoon when they face them at home at Lansing Chapman Rink.
