Box Score NEW LONDON, CT -- The Williams College Ephs (9-5-5, 6-3-3 NESCAC) faced the Connecticut College Camels (11-5-3, 5-4-3 NESCAC) tonight at Connecticut College's Dayton Arena. Although the Camels were able to score in the second period, the Ephs were able to equalize the game in the third, resulting in a 1-1 tie.
The first period was uneventful as neither team was able to find the net despite power play opportunities on both sides. The first goal of the game was scored in the second period after Williams was called for a checking penalty. During this one man advantage, the Camels were able to score at 17:31 into the second.
However, the Ephs were able to respond with their own goal at 3:00 into the third when junior Gabi Montembeault, after receiving the puck from junior Michaela O'Connor and sophomore CC Wallin, was able to weave through traffic in front of the net and score.
For the remainder of the period, neither team scored and the Ephs were able to kill off a hooking penalty with some great saves from sophomore goalie Chloe Heiting. Williams then had to kill off another penalty for tripping during the 5 minute overtime and were able to successfully hold off the Camels.
By the end of the game, Heiting had saved 26 of 27 Connecticut College shots while Carly Denora for the Camels had saved 32 of 33 Williams shots.
"I thought we played a solid game but know that we have another level that we can, and need to hit in this very competitive conference, " said head coach Meghan Gillis.
The Ephs look to top Connecticut College tomorrow night when they face the Camels again.
