HADLEY, MASS. -- Senior midfielder
Victoria Laino (Zurich, Switzerland) and junior defender
Maria Chapman, (Boulder, Colo.) were voted to the All-NESCAC Women's Soccer team by the conference coaches.
Â
Chapman was the lone player on the Eph squad to start each of the fifteen games the Ephs played this year and she played all 1377 minutes, which was just over 300 minutes more than the next most minutes played by a teammate.
Â
Laino (known as "Vic" by her teammates) was limited to 10 games this fall due to injuries and she tallied 3 goals (2 game-winners) and assisted on one for goal 7 points, which tied her for third on the team.
Â
In 2019 Laino was recognized by the NESCAC coaches with First Team and Player of the Year honors.
Â
"It's always rewarding to see our players being recognized by others in the league for the efforts and impact they had on our team in a season," said Eph head coach
Sarah Raymond.
Â
"Vic has been the heart of our midfield for so long and despite missing a third of the season this year due to injury, her importance on our team is immeasurable. She dictates the game for us through her outstanding technical ability, the amount of possession her play enables our team to have and her innate soccer sense. Vic embodies what it means to compete with passion and leave it all out there and gives this to her team at every moment."
Â
"Maria was an absolute rock star this year leading a young backline," noted Raymond. "Maria's physical preparation enabled her to play every minute of our season as fast and tough at the end of the game as she was at the beginning. She was the leader of our defense and inspired those around her through her work ethic, her demonstrated desire to continue to grow, and her maturity to help her younger teammates learn and develop. She was our most reliable and consistent player all year long."
