COMPLETE RESULTS
Waterville, ME – In a weekend packed with success and gritty swims and clean dives, the Williams Women Swim and Dive team ultimately fell to the Tufts Jumbos in a nail-biting ending which came down to the final relay. Such a tight competition has not been seen in years, as the day began with a 7.5 point margin and the Tufts victory came by a mere 50.50 points (1809-1758.50).
During the awards segment of the evening, several Ephs were recognized for their efforts this weekend.
Amanda Wager, who won the 100 yard breaststroke and 200 yard breaststroke, was awarded the 'Swimmer of the Meet' award which is determined by a vote by the NESCAC coaches.
Molly Craig earned the '4 Year High Point Scorer' award, an incredible achievement recognizing her long reign as individual medley champion and
Casey Delano was runner-up for the high point award.
Lillie Bushway started off the Sunday session with a NESCAC Championship in the 1650 yard freestyle, rounding out her weekend with the maximum three individual event wins. The distance specialist once again demonstrated her incredible splitting as she consistently fed her lead ahead of the rest of the field, taking home the win in 16:57.13.
Frances Hayward also battled her way to a podium finish, placing 6
th in 17:16.27.
Three Ephwomen swam the 200 yard backstroke with first year
Sophia Verkleeren taking the top Williams placement as she placed 3
rd overall in 2:00.45, a full second improvement from this morning.
Abby Matheny placed 5
th and
Caitlin Murphy placed 7
th.
Casey Delano was the fastest Eph in the 100 yard freestyle with a 51.76, taking 7
th.
The 100 yard breaststroke represented a huge point swing for Williams. Taking the first, second and third overall podium spots were
Amanda Wager (2:12.98),
Charlotte Wishnack (2:16.52), and
Molly Craig (2:17.22) respectively. Wager, with two individual wins this weekend, was a few tenths from the NESCAC meet record and has posted the fastest time in the country in this event this season.
Samantha Kilcoyne and
Gabriella Lopez-Ona represented Williams in the finals of the 200 yard butterfly. Kilcoyne took second overall with a 2:01.16, while Lopez-Ona grabbed 4
th with a 2:02.73.
Adelaide Herman improved significantly from her morning dives, ending the 3 meter competition with a final score of 412.20, placing 7
th overall. Herman will continue to the Regionals Diving Meet held in Ithaca, New York on February 25
th to vie for a spot at the NCAA National competition.
Following the 3 meter diving competition, the last individual event, Tufts led Williams by 16.5 points. However the Jumbo's sprint-heavy team was able to put together a fast 400 freestyle relay which broke the NESCAC record in a time of 3:22.46. A valiant Williams relay, including
Molly Craig,
Georgia Panitz,
Casey Delano, and
Samantha Kilcoyne, took second in 3:25.31.
This meet concludes the competitive season for some of the Williams swimmers and divers, while others will continue on to the NCAA DIII Championship in Indianapolis in March.
