Eph Men's Swim and Dive victorious over Conn College

Williamstown, MA. - Williams Men's Swim and Dive honored the team's seniors today at their penultimate home meet of the season against Connecticut College. Seniors Zeb Hart, Timmy Page, Kobe Tray, Ben Shapiro, Jake Silberman, Liam Sullivan, and Nick Whitcomb will graduate this spring, so this will be their final season swimming for the Ephs. The team defeated the Camels with a 188-95 win.

The Ephmen started the meet with a dominant performance in the 200 medley relay, taking both first and second place. The winning relay team of Nick Whitcomb '23, Jacob Grover '24, Zeb Hart '23, and Oliver Schalet '25 finished in a scorching 1:32.82. Schalet's freestyle split of 20.38 was the fastest by over half a second and sealed the team's victory.

The 200 freestyle was a demonstration of the team's depth and speed as the Ephmen took 1st through 4th places. Oliver Schalet touched first, clocking in at 1:42.12, an incredible time. Just half a second behind was Gabe Lee '26, followed by Alex Atherton '24 and Zach Houlton '24.5.

The Ephmen once again dominated in the 100 backstroke. Nick Whitcomb swam the event in 50.83 seconds, just out-touching teammate Zeb Hart (50.94) in an exciting race. The pair finished 1st and 2nd, a full 2 seconds ahead of the next finisher. Charlie Venci '25 took 3rd with a 52.89, over a second ahead of the next competitor.

Once again in the 100 breaststroke, the Ephs finished 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, an impressive feat. Jacob Grover won the event in 57.08 and Liam Sullivan '23 touched 2nd in 58.02, the only two under a minute in the event. Tate Chutkow '25 finished 3rd 1:00.78, just half a second off of his season best.



In an incredibly close 50 freestyle, the Ephs finished 2nd, 3rd, and tied with each other for 4th. Quinton Hastings '24 placed 2nd with a 22.02. Timmy Page '23 took 3rd in 22.22 and Jack Marquardt '24 and Kevin Whitworth '26 tied for 4th in 22.28.

Kobe Tray '23 won 3 meter diving with some incredible dives and a score of 352.95, just 12 points under his season best. Tray also won 1 meter in a season best score of 323.85. Ben Shapiro placed 3rd in 1 meter, just 4 points under his season best. An exciting and impressive day on the boards!

Oliver Schalet won his second individual event of the day, the 100 freestyle by nearly a second, finishing in just 47.46 seconds. Teammates Zeb Hart and Ev Nichol '23.5 took 3rd and 4th in another close race, finishing in 49.83 and 50.05, respectively.

The Ephs ran away with the 200 backstroke Gabe Lee won the battle for the top spot and touched in 1:53.49, just ahead of teammate Timmy Page at 1:54.74. This created an exciting final 50, as Page was ahead at the 150 marker. Harrison Williams '26 finished 3rd for the Ephs in 1:57.20.

The 200 breaststroke showed another dominant performance by the Ephs. Charlie Venci won the event in 2:11.81, followed by Kevin Jiang '26 and Cole Mason '23.5  in the top 3 spots, well ahead of the top Conn swimmer. Dylan Aldana-Taylor '25 finished 5th to round out the Eph's performances.

In the 500 freestyle, Alex Atherton took the win in 4:39.38, out-touching the next swimmer in a close and exciting race. Zach Houlton finished 3rd in 4:48.93 and Nathaniel Tunggal '25 took 4th in 4:50.63. Michael Ma '26 swam the race exhibition and touched in 4:47.21.

The 100 butterfly was another Eph-sweep. Jacob Grover took the win in the event, just 0.35 seconds ahead of Oliver Schalet. Grover finished in an astounding 51.73 and Schalet in 52.08. Nick Whitcomb followed, placing 3rd with a time of 53.74.

Charlie Venci won the 200 IM by nearly 2 seconds, clocking in at a time of 1:57.54. Jacob Grover followed, out-touching a competitor by just 0.42 seconds and finishing in 1:59.46. Jack Marquardt placed 4th with a 2:00.85, over 3 seconds ahead of the next finisher, for a strong IM performance by the Ephs.

The final event of the day was the 200 freestyle relay. The Ephs placed 2nd, 3rd, and 5th. The top Williams team of Quinton Hastings, Ev Nichol, Gabe Lee, and Harrison Williams finished in 1:26.19, just 0.14 seconds behind first to round off the day.

After a successful last 2 weekends, the Ephs look toward the only double-header weekend of the season. The team will compete against NYU and MIT at home this Friday, January 20th, at 2pm and again on Saturday, January 21st, at Middlebury with Hamilton. These will be the last two meets of the regular season as the Ephs look toward the upcoming championship meets.
