Late Ephs Comeback Comes Up Short at Bowdoin

Brunswick, ME – The Williams College Ephs (4-10-1, 2-6-1) headed up to Bowdoin College (10-4-1, 5-4-1) in an important NESCAC matchup. Just two minutes into the third period, Bowdoin would capitalize on an odd-man rush to take a lead that they would not relinquish, downing the Ephs 3-2.

A sluggish Ephs' team came out second best in the first period as Bowdoin put the puck on the net early and often. Despite a 10-1 shot deficit in the opening 10 minutes, Ephs' Cal Sandquist would hold strong, only allowing one goal throughout the early onslaught. As the Ephs began to acclimate to the game speed, chances started to flow, and the play began to open up.

It would be the Polar Bears, however, that cashed in next as they took advantage of a quick faceoff play to extend their advantage to two. The game rolled on and the Ephs continued to play on the back foot until a shorthanded strike would cut the deficit.

After an interference call with three minutes left in the third, the Ephs broke the puck up the ice and Jonah Gold found himself 1 on 2. He entered the Bowdoin zone and fired a wrist shot off the far post to claw Williams back. Just a minute later he would again rifle a shot to the net, but this time it would be Nick Rashkovsky who deflected the shot home to tie the game.

Williams would look to use this momentum going into the third, but again Bowdoin struck first. With this 3-2 lead, Bowdoin began to sit back and absorb the pressure as the Ephs mounted an attack. Shot after shot was turned away by the Bowdoin defense and the Ephs opted to pull the goaltender again. In a mad scramble to find the equalizer, Williams would come up empty and fall to Bowdoin.

The Ephs will look to bounce back as they travel to play Colby College tomorrow at 3 PM.
