WILLIAMSTOWN, MA. - The Williams College Ephs (9-6, 6-4 NESCAC) fell to the No. 1 Middlebury College Panthers (15-0, 10-0 NESCAC) 3-0 in their regular season finale on Williamson Field.
Caroline Segal gave the Panthers an early 1-0 lead at the 9:38 mark. Amy Griffin doubled Middlebury's lead with just 6:45 left in the first half.
Griffin made it 3-0 at the 44:43 mark after converting from the penalty kick spot. On the night, the Middlebury Panthers outshot the Williams College Ephs 11-6. The Panthers struck 6 on target while the Ephs struck 2 on target.
"Obviously we wanted to win, disappointed that we didn't," stated Eph head coach Alix Barrale after the game. "But I thought we put up one of our best games all season. We played really hard and we worked really well together. I think we held them to few shots and we had more offensive opportunities than most teams have had against Middlebury. In many ways, lots to build on and hopefully moving forward we play with that focus and intensity in the postseason."
Next up for Williams is the 2023 NESCAC Field Hockey Championship. The 4th seeded Ephs will host the 5th seeded Wesleyan Cardinals in a quarterfinals match up. The contest is set to take place on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 12PM on Williamson Field.
