Ephs Fall To The Polar Bears 2-1

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA. - Junior Meaghan Boehm's goal at the 58:07 mark cut the Polar Bears lead in half, but came too late for a momentum shift as the Williams College Ephs (4-2, 1-1 NESCAC) fell to the Bowdoin College Polar Bears (5-2, 2-2 NESCAC) on Williamson Field.

The Polar Bears took an early 1-0 lead when Maddie Mrva struck the ball into the bottom right corner at the 4:01 mark. Despite back and forth play between both teams, the Polar Bears went into the halftime break with the lead.

Awarded a penalty corner at the 42:40 mark, Almira Arnold doubled Bowdoin's lead to set them up with a 2-0 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

An initial shot from sophomore Kiki Higgins was saved but Boehm was there to slot the ball into the back of the net to cut the Polar Bears lead in half with a little over two minutes to go. The goal, however, came too late as the Ephs failed to find an equalizer.

The Ephs fired a total of 15 shots, with 5 on target. The Polar Bears fired 10 shots with 6 on target.

"I feel like we were slow to warm up today," stated Eph head coach Alix Barrale after the game. "Bowdoin jumped on us early and we dug ourselves a hole once again. We out shot them, we out cornered them. We couldn't capitalize in the circle and we really flubbed our corners. It was more of a mental breakdown than it was anything else. All credit to Bowdoin, a very good team and solid across the board. They deserved this game and now it's back to the drawing board for us."

Up next for the Ephs is their first road contest of the season. They are set to take on the Amherst College Mammoths on Saturday, Sept. 30th, at 11 AM in Amherst, Mass.
