Williams Men's Squash Loses to #8 Columbia 6-3

NEW YORK, NY -- This Sunday, the Williams Men's Squash Team traveled down to New York City to take on the #8 ranked Columbia Lions. They were looking to upset a top ranked Columbia team that was dealing with some injuries, but unfortunately fell short losing 6-3. The team had their chances in many of the matches, but the Lions were able to win the key points and games. Eph head coach Hesham Aly said "it was just a couple points here and there that ended up deciding this match."

Co-Captain Jack Lee started off the first round of matches on the three court system for the Ephs. He fought back from a 2-1 deficit in games to force a fifth, but unfortunately fell short in the deciding game, losing in five. Pierce Henderson continued his stellar play to win 3-1. First year Himanshu Pannu played a really close match against a familiar foe, but some unlucky calls had him lose in four.

In the second round of matches, Nick Agger, Rafay Syed, and Will Newton had some flashes of brilliance but ultimately all lost in three games.

Wrapping it up for the team was co-captain Andrew Minnis who was able to use his consistency and athleticism to win the third game, but his opponent's shot making had him fall in a close four. Alex Akbari in the #5 spot won the first game but then dropped the next two. Unfortunately, in the fourth, his opponent suffered an injury that forced him to retire. Ty Green was another bright spot for the Ephs, who was able to ignore the jeers from the home crowd and keep his head to fight back from 10-7 down in the fourth to win 3-1.

This was the last match of 2024 for the team and they look forward to regrouping and training over winter break. Their next match is Jan 10 against Franklin and Marshall.
