Philadelphia, PA - This weekend the Williams Men's squash team traveled down to Philadelphia to compete in the Divisional National Team Championships, where they were seeded 1st. Today they had their first round match against Chatham University where they won solidly 7-2.
Today's match was played on the three court system. Starting off the first round for the Ephs was
Hudson Lin at the 8 seed, who got off to a slow start and dropped the first game, but recovered well and won out 3-1.
Jack Lee at the 4 seed had a dominating performance, winning 3-0. Co-captain
Will Evans at the 1 seed started with a close first game win 11-9, but then a few errors in the second and third games caused him to go down 2-1. However, he dug deep and managed to use his physicality to win in five games, 3-2.
Next up for the Ephs was
John Nicholson at the 9 seed, who won swiftly in 3 games.
Alex Akbari at the 6 seed lost in three close games.
Nick Agger at the 2 seed got off to a solid start, taking the first game, but unfortunately lost his match 3-2. Next up
Pierce Henderson at the 7 seed used solid ball control to win 3-0.
Asher Leavy at the 5 seed won 3-0, managing to take a closely contested third game 14-12. And last up for the Ephs was co-captain
Andrew Minnis at the 3 seed, who won out 3-0, notably staying tough in the second which he won 15-13.
It was a solid result for Williams, and they look forward to a semifinals matchup against Amherst tomorrow.Â
