Ephs Edge Tufts Jumbos 5-4 Indoors in Bennington, Vermont

BENNINGTON, VT -- The Williams Ephs battled the Tufts Jumbos this afternoon. The end result was a 5-4 squeaker in favor of the Ephs. There were momentum swings on each of the three doubles courts, but Williams found a way at #1 and #3 to help the team surge into singles with a 2-1 edge.

Annabelle Siegle got to work and turned 2 team points into 3 with a quick win at the #3 singles spot. Senior Ananya Aggarwal followed suit and went on to win 6-1, 6-1 in the second and third sets after dropping the first. The Ephs were one point from a team victory, but the Jumbos kept battling, and put another two points on the board with a win at #1 and #4. The team score was 4-3 for the Ephs with #5 Jane Ladaga, and #2 Yuu Ishikawa still out on court. Yuu reeled off four straight tiebreaker points to seal the deal for the Ephs. Hats off to the Jumbos for a resilient match. If you missed the seven hour battle, don't worry, there's plenty more! The Ephs are back at it tomorrow morning against Bates. The match will start at 10am sharp.

Eph head coach Anik Cepeda commented after the match, "This was a tremendous match. What's exciting -- and a little scary -- is that this squad still isn't even close to their full potential. For coach Dorr and myself, it's been remarkable to see them compete this hard for one another this early in the season. We're only three matches in and they're already learning how to bounce back from deficits. The off court cheer squad really helped today. The next step for the team is to be more consistent in their presence on court, regardless of what's happening between the ears or in the scoreline itself."
