Ephs Take Down Trinity 8-1

Hartford, CT- The Ephs bounced back after their match against Wesleyan yesterday, taking down the Trinity Bantams 8-1.

Once again, the match was moved indoors during doubles due to the rain. However, the Ephs did not let this switch deter them in their efforts and they still managed to win all 3 doubles.  At #3 doubles, Jane Ladaga and Margaux Molyneux made quick work of their opponents with a score of 8-1. Ahn Lin and Mia Thomann were next to finish at #2 doubles. Although they initially went down 0-2, the two focused on bringing energy and quickly bounced back to take the match 8-4. Annabelle Siegel and Yuu Ishikawa were tested today at #1 doubles. After going down 6-3 against a fiery pair, they strung together many beautifully constructed points to win 5 games straight for a scoreline of 8-6.

The Ephs were up 3-0 heading into singles, but knew they had to continue executing to secure the win. Ananya Aggarwal dominated her opponent at #4 singles. Using her consistency from the baseline and unbelievable angles, she was able to force many errors from her opponent to win 6-1, 6-2.

Annabelle Siegel followed in dominating fashion at #2 singles. She played a powerful hitter like herself, but proved to be the more consistent of the two and won 6-1, 6-2. At #1 singles, Ishikawa played a solid match all around using a variety of heavy forehands and impeccable net play to leave her opponent without many options. Although the points were long, Ishikawa won 6-1, 6-1.

Margaux Molyneux displayed exquisite play at #5 singles to win 6-1, 6-0. While she hit many winners, she also made very few errors which made her extremely tough to beat. At #6 singles, Julia Zhang didn't let many balls go by her. She used her speed and consistency to frustrate her opponent and found herself victorious with a score of 6-2, 6-1. Jane Ladaga had an extremely close match at #3 singles. Her opponent came out on fire leaving Ladaga down 4-1. However, she was determined to come back and won the first set 6-4. After going back and forth in the second set, she lost 7-6 and then 10-4 in the third set breaker. It was a resilient fight.

Head oach Anik Cepeda commented, "The coaches are really proud of the team today. They created the energy and atmosphere they wanted, and kept their shoulders back from start to finish. Couldn't have bounced back better than we did today. I hope they carry this energy and purpose into the week ahead." The Ephs look foward to playing Amherst next Saturday at 1 PM on heir Hunt Tournament Courts on senior day.
