WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - The Williams College wrestling team won its first two meets of the season, cruising to victories over Roger Williams University and the University of Bridgeport on Saturday afternoon in Lasell Gymnasium.
The Ephs opened the day with a 55-0 victory over Roger Williams, and followed that with a 50-6 win over Bridgeport.
Against Roger Williams, the Ephs won several matches quickly, including a pin within 27 seconds at 157 by Peter Kane, and at 38 seconds by Christopher Colon at 125. Several other Williams wrestlers, including Tylor Stubbs, Caleb Seyfried, David LaPrade and Connor Reynolds also won by fall.
The Ephs continued rolling in the later meet, with Kane taking one second less in his second match of the day, pinning his opponent in just 26 seconds. Seyfried earned a quick fall as well, taking just 45 seconds, and Colon, LaPrade, and Reynolds also all pinned their opponents, Jake Strianese got his second tech fall of the day, and Stubbs earned a hard-fought 12-8 decision. The only setback for the team on the day was that Fisher Stites, having won by major decision earlier in the day, had to withdraw from his second match with an injury.
Williams will be back in action next weekend, visiting Springfield College for the Doug Parker Tournament, and will travel to Rochester, N.Y. for the RIT Invitational on December 6. The team will then break for the holiday before returning home on January 3 for the Williams Open.
