Kane and Evarts Compete at the NCAA DIII Championship

Kane earned 2 wins today!
PROVIDENCE, RI – Two Ephs, junior captain Peter Kane and first-year Jamie Evarts, traveled to Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence, Rhode Island, to compete in the NCAA DIII Wrestling Championship. Through outstanding performances, Kane and Evarts earned their spots in this prestigious tournament, the pinnacle of DIII wrestling. Over the course of this two-day event, both wrestlers competed in the preliminary rounds. While Evarts' impressive debut season with Williams College wrestling concluded with two hard-fought losses, Kane's strong showing secured him another match tomorrow.

Peter Kane opened his campaign with a hard-fought victory over Tyler Rossini of Oswego State. He seized control early, securing a takedown just 10 seconds into the match. Building on this momentum, he notched a second takedown to close out the first period. With a commanding 6-1 lead, Kane skillfully defended his advantage, setting the tone for his tournament run.

Next, he faced No. 7-ranked Tyler Goebel of Wis.-La Crosse. Once again, Kane struck first with an early takedown, but Goebel quickly escaped, bringing the score to 3-1. The remainder of the period was a tightly contested battle, with both wrestlers vying for control. Goebel started the second period in the bottom position and earned another escape point, cutting Kane's lead to just one. In the final period, Kane began in the bottom position and secured an escape point of his own. However, with only 16 seconds remaining, Goebel managed a takedown, edging out a 5-4 victory.

Despite the narrow loss, Kane rebounded in his final match of the day with a dominant 4-0 decision over Demetri Teddlie of Ozarks. His performance has been outstanding, and he still has the opportunity to compete for a podium finish tomorrow.

Jamie Evarts capped off a remarkable first year at Williams College with his NCAA DIII Championship appearance. He faced two tough opponents, Brandt Bombard of Augsburg and Sampson Wilkins of Castleton.

Evarts' first bout was a nail-biter, with the match hanging in the balance until the final moments. Holding a narrow lead heading into the third period, Evarts battled hard, but a late takedown by Bombard ultimately led him to fall short in the match. In his second bout, he faced Sampson Wilkins and was defeated by fall at 1:21. Although he came up short in both matches, Evarts showcased resilience, grit, and determination—qualities that promise a bright future in his collegiate wrestling career.

Looking ahead, the final day of the DIII Championship takes place tomorrow. Stay tuned as Peter Kane continues his quest for a spot on the national podium!
