WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - In a rematch of a closely-fought battle from last season, the #12 Williams College men's squash team earned a comfortable 8-1 victory over #16 Franklin & Marshall College on Friday afternoon.
The Ephs played well throughout ladder, and earned wins in positions 2-9, with Will Newton at #5 and Rafay Syed at #9 earning quick victories to set the tone. Himmanshu Pannu was first on Court 1 and took a 3-1 win in an hour and 15 minutes to keep the Ephs in control.
Alex Akbari (#4), Ty Green (#7), and Dylan Scott (#8) all won 3-0, and Leighton Calhoun captured a 3-1 victory at #6. At #1, Nick Agger fought back from 2-0 down to force a fifth set, but came up just short (8-11) in the deciding game against a strong opponent. Last on court was senior Asher Leavy at #3, who won 3-1 in front of both teams.
Last year's match against F&M was a 5-4 decision in favor of the Ephs, who won much more decisively this year despite losing several top players to graduation.
Williams will take on #23 Dickinson College on Saturday before closing the busy weekend against #15 Navy on Sunday.
