WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - The Williams College men's squash team earned a comfortable 8-1 win over #25 Bates College on Saturday afternoon at the Simon Squash Center. Coming off a dramatic late-night win over MIT on Friday, the Ephs avoided a letdown and took care of business against the Bobcats.
The #13 Ephs moved a couple additional players out of their ladder for Saturday's match after finishing past 9:30pm on Friday, and most of the matches went relatively quickly, though the Ephs had to battle in the top three. In addition to Leavy, Alex Akbari won a lengthy 3-0 match at #2, 11-5, 11-8, 11-7, and Will Newton recovered after dropping the first game to win 3-1 (3-11, 11-4, 11-9, 11-4) at #3. Senior co-captain Asher Leavy played at #1 for the first time this season, and lost a battle in five games, 6-11, 11-9, 11-3, 6-11, 1-11.
The rest of the matches were relatively straightforward, with Leighton Calhoun at #4, Anden Boulan at #5, Rafay Syed at #6, Leonard Lee at #7, Hudson Lin at #8, and John Nicholson at #9 all winning 3-0.
The Ephs will finish their busy weekend against #26 Wesleyan University on Sunday, with matches starting at 11am at the Simon Squash Center.
