CLINTON, N.Y. – The Williams College men's hockey team advanced to the NESCAC Championship game after defeating No. 3 Hamilton, 5–4, in overtime in Saturday afternoon's semifinal matchup.
The sixth-seeded Ephs jumped out to an early 2–0 lead in the first period. First-year Jackson Krill opened the scoring just six minutes into the contest, and Brady Welsch added another nearly five minutes later to give Williams the early advantage.
Top-seeded Hamilton responded late in the first period with two goals to even the score at 2–2 heading into the second.
Hamilton carried the momentum into the second period, scoring just moments after the puck dropped to take its first lead of the game. Krill answered quickly for the Ephs, netting his second goal of the afternoon to tie the game at three. Welsch followed shortly after with his second goal of the day, putting Williams back in front, 4–3.
Hamilton found the equalizer late in the third period, sending the game into overtime.
Krill sealed the victory for the Ephs in the extra frame, completing the hat trick with the game-winning goal to lift Williams to the 5–4 road win.
Junior goaltender Harrison Fogel made 37 saves in net, finishing with a .902 save percentage.
With the win, Williams advances to the NESCAC Championship game on Sunday, March 8 at 2:00 p.m., where the Ephs will face the winner of Bowdoin and Middlebury.
