The 2015-16 school year marks the 20th year that Williams Sports Information has posted game stories online. To honor the accomplishments of all the Eph teams and individuals from the 1995-96 season, Williams Sports information -- ephsports.williams.edu/ -- will be posting a Throwback Thursday during the duration of the coming academic year.
The first Throwback Thursday posting occurred September 3. Each Thursday after that Eph fans following the Williams Sports Information Twitter feed (@EphSports) and /or Facebook (Williams College Athletics) will receive alerts and links to see these old game stories.
The Williams Sports Information website was in its infancy in 1995-96 so there were no photos posted in the articles, but some teams had partial photo galleries that can be found by clicking on the menu bar tab About This Team.
The 1995-96 Williams Sports Information website does not look anything like the current website.
1995-96 was a year full of success for all Eph teams. Overall, Williams' teams combined for an astounding 416-118-5 (.776) record.
In addition, the Ephs won or tied 20 of 25 Little Three championships.
Eight different Eph teams enjoyed undefeated seasons.
Women's Lacrosse finished the year 15-0 and won the ECAC-New England Championship with a #1 national ranking.
Football completed its second consecutive unbeaten season with a 7-0-1 record. The Amherst game, a 0-0 tie, was broadcast live on ESPN2.
The 1995 fall season featured the men's soccer (17-0-2) and men's cross country teams capturing NCAA Championships.
The Sears Directors' Cup, a national competition sponsored in conjunction with the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) debuted in NCAA Division III play and the Ephs claimed the first Cup. The Directors' Cup is now sponsored by Learfield Sports and Williams has won an astounding 18 out of 20 Cups.
The Directors' Cup is considered to be emblematic of athletic supremacy.
Along with the many Eph team successes in 1995-96 Eph athletes and coaches also notched several outstanding individual accomplishments.
We all hope you enjoy this look back at a most remarkable year.
