TUCSON, AZ. -- A strong outing from first-year hurler Dan Smith and a two-run homer from senior KC Murphy helped the Williams College baseball team snap a four-game losing streak with an 8-5 win over Carthage Monday.
Williams improved to 4-6 on the season. The Ephs play Lewis & Clark Tuesday.
The Ephs trailed 1-0 entering the bottom of the second but an RBI-single from David Webster and an RBI-groundout by Kirby Neuner made it 2-1 in Williams' favor. The Ephs extended that lead to 4-1 in the third when Murphy launched a two-run home run to left field, scoring Matt Kastner.
Sophomore Phil McGovern, who went 3 for 4, hit a two-run double down the left-field line in the fourth to make it 6-1.
That was more than enough for Smith, who tossed seven innings and allowed only three hits and one unearned run. He walked four and struck out two in picking up his first collegiate victory.
Senior Taylor Mondshein was 3 for 5 with an RBI and run scored. Webster was 2 for 3.
