TUCSON, AZ. -- The Williams College baseball team suffered a 9-3 defeat at the hands off NESCAC West rival Middlebury Friday.
The Panthers struck for one run in the first and three in the second to take a commanding 4-0 lead early. Middlebury improved to 3-5 on the season, 1-0 in NESCAC West play. Williams fell to 6-8 overall, 0-1 in the West.
The two teams will battle each other in a doubleheader tomorrow at 11 a.m. MST.
Thomas Murphy got the start Friday for Williams and went the first six innings, allowing five hits while walking two and striking out four. Only two of the five runs he allowed were earned. Kelso Stevens finished up, tossing three frames and allowing four runs, all earned, while while one and striking out five. He gave up six hits.
The Ephs finally got on the scoreboard in the seventh when Beau Horan singled and Taylor Mondshein followed with another hit. Marco Hernandez brought home both runners with a single to make it 7-2 Middlebury.
