TUCSON, AZ. -- The Williams College baseball team dropped a 19-11 decision to Oberlin College Wednesday at the Kino Sports Complex.
The Ephs fell to 3-3 on the season heading into a key NESCAC West three-game series against Middlebury beginning Friday. The first game will start at 1 pm.
Williams took a 2-0 lead in the secomd when Jack Cloud doubled in Marco Hernandez, then scored on an errant pick-off attempt at third base. Oberlin countered with four runs in the top of the third, but the Ephs answered with three in their half to re-take the lead at 5-4.
Hernandez had a two-run single to tie the game, and Tommy Stephens' RBI-fielder's choice scored the go-ahead run.
Oberlin scored three in the top of the fourth to make it 7-5, but again the Ephs answered right back, scoring three times in their half to re-take the lead 8-7. Matt Kastner had an RBI-double that scored Kelso Stevens and Phil McGovern followed with a two-run, opposite-field home run.
The Ephs added a run in the fifth on Luke Pierce's RBI-single for a 9-7 lead, but it was all Oberlin after that as the visitors scored five in the sixth, two in the seventh and four in the eighth to build an 18-9 lead.
The Ephs banged out 17 hits, led by Cloud's 4 for 6, 3 RBI day. Kastner, McGovern, Stephens and Jack Roberts had two hits each.
