TUCSON, AZ. -- Nathan Michalski and Connor Dunn put together two solid pitching performances Tuesday and received plenty of support from their teammates at the plate as the Williams College baseball team rolled to a 5-1, 12-4 sweep of Lewis & Clark.
The Ephs improved to 3-2 with the sweep while the Pioneers fell to 3-21 on the season. Wednesday Williams will play Grace Christian at 12 p.m. MST.
In the opener Tuesday, Michalski hurled five strong shutout frames, allowing only three hits and walking no one while striking out three batters to earn the win. Eddie Kelly finished up throwing the final two innings with one strikeout.
The Ephs took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first and added three in the second for a 4-0 advantage. Sophomore Jack Roberts went 3 for 4 at the plate with a triple and 4 RBI and also scored a run. Junior Beau Horan scored twice for the Ephs, who finished with seven hits.
In the nightcap, Dunn made his collegiate debut on the mound, throwing the first five innings and allowing three earned runs while striking out one. Jake Slater finished up the final two frames, allowing a run on two hits while striking out one.
The Ephs scored twice in the first for a 2-0 lead and then twice more in the third for a 4-2 lead, but broke the game open with a six-run fourth inning and never looked back. They finished with 13 hits in the victory.
Sophomore Jack Cloud went 2 for 4 with 1 RBI and 2 runs scored. David Rosas went 3 for 4 with 2 singles, a triple, and 1 RBI. Senior Luke Pierce was 2 for 4 with ahome run and 2 RBI. First year Adam Regensburg was also 2 for 4, and Horan was 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored.
