TUCSON, AZ. — Augistini Lopez scattered six hits over seven frames Wednesday to quiet the bats of the Williams College baseball team and lead Grace University to a 7-2 defeat of the Ephs at the Kino Sportx Complex.
First year Adam Regensburg was 2 for 3 with a run scored for the Ephs, who slipped to 3-3. Jack Roberts was 1 for 3 with an RBI. Williams of off Thursday before beginning a key three-games series with NESCAC West Division rival Middlebury with a single game Friday that starts at 1 p.m. MST. Grace improved to 6-13 with the victory.
Wednesday the Ephs took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Jack Cloud reached on an error and scored on Roberts' one-out single.
The Royals tied it with a single run in the first as Williams lost starter Alex Beschloss to an undisclosed injury. They took the lead for good with a two-run third. Victor Serna broke the tie with an RBI single off Tyler Duff and Johnny Miranda plated a run with a sacrifice fly.
Williams cut that deficit to 3-2 with a run in the top of the fourth when Regensburg doubled and stole third with two outs and nobody on. Jackson Parese followed with a walk, and the duo then pulled off a double steal, with regensburg stealing home.
But Grace reposnded with two more runs in the bottom of the fourth off Ephs reliever Cole Futterman, and Lopez kept the Ephs' off the scoreboard the remainder of the way.
