HADLEY, MA — Williams College first year Kellen Hatheway (Armonk, N.Y.) was selected as the New England Small College Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year Wednesday, while junior right-hander Luke Rodino was chosen 2nd Team All-NESCAC.
Hatheway, the Ephs' stating shortstop, turned in a team-high .449 slugging percentage to go with a .331 batting average, 24 runs, 42 hits and 21 RBIs. He is the fifth Eph to receive the award, joining Robin Allemand (2007),Dan Benz (2006), Chris Bodnar (2002) and Jabe Bergeron (2001).
He finished first or second in 10 different offensive categories for the Ephs, including at-bats (127), runs (24), hits (42), doubles (8), triples (2), home runs (2), RBI (21), batting average (.331), slugging percentage (.449) and total bases (57).
"What a great honor for Kellen," Ephs' head coach Bill Barrale said. "He is a tremendous defender in the middle of our infield, and he was exciting to watch all year. He made a lot of difficult plays look easy."
Likewise, Luke Rodino led multiple categories for Eph pitchers. He finished the season 5-3 with a 3.21 earned run average. He led the team in games started (8), wins (5) and had two completed games as well. He also paced the Ephs innings pitched (56) and strikeouts (49).
"Luke was truly our ace this year," Barrale said. "He led our team both on and off the field, and when he had the ball everyone thought we were going to win. We are all thrilled he is back for one more year!"
