Ephs defeat Gustavus 10-1 behind 13-hit attack, Lamont

TUCSON, AZ. — Three pitchers combined on a three-hitter Tuesday and the Williams College baseball team banged out 13 hits in a 10-1 win over Gustavus Adolphus at the Kino Sports Complex. 

The win was the Ephs' fourth straight. Williams (4-2) will face Gustavus again Wednesday for a 1:30 p.m. MST start.

Tuesday, first-year Johnny Lamont threw six strong innings for the Ephs, allowing only two hits and one unearned run while walking three and striking out four. 

Still, the Ephs trailed 1-0 into the bottom of the second when an Alex Panstares' RBI-single tied the score. Williams took the lead for good with a run in the bottom of the fourth when Adam Regensburg reached on an error and Nathan Michalski doubled him home. 

Williams then broke open the game with four runs in the fifth and four runs in the sixth. 

In the Ephs fifth, Gustavus errors put jack Cloud on third and Kellen Hatheway on first with no outs. Jack Roberts and Doug Schaffer followed with back-to-back RBI-singles for a 4-1 lead. After Jackson Parese sacrifced the runners to second and third, Regensburg singled home Roberts and Michalski's sacrifice fly scored Schaffer for a 6-2 advantage. 

In the sixth, Cloud drew a lead-off walk and Hatheway was hit by a pitch. Roberts' roped a two-run double, Parese had an RBI-single and Regensburg made it 10-1 with an RBI-double. 

Jack Bohen took over for Lamont in the seventh and tossed a hitless inning of relief, walking two and striking out one. Cole Futterman came on for the final two innings, allowing one hit while walking no one and fanning one. 

Roberts was 3 for 5 with three RBI and two runs scored. Regensburg was 3 for 5 with two RBI and two runs scored. Schaffer was 2 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Michalski was 2 for 2 with two RBI.
