Ephs run win streak to five with 6-5 decision over Gustavus Adolphus

TUCSON, AZ. — The Williams College baseball team ran its win streak to five games Wednesday by rallying to defeat Gustavus Adolphus 6-5 at the Kino Sports Complex.

The Ephs (5-2) will have Thursday off before starting a key NESCAC West series with Middlebury Friday at 1 p.m. MST.

Wednesday Williams trailed Gustavus 3-1 heading into the bottom of the fifth. With one out, Jackson Parese single and stole second base. Jack Cloud singled home Parese to make it 3-2 and then stole second, advancing to third on a throwing error. He scored on Kellen Hatheway's sacrifice fly to center field. 

The Ephs scored twice more in the sixth to take a 5-3 lead. Doug Schaffer drew a lead-off walk and stole second. Designated hitter Jack Overholt singled to third, advancing Schaffer to third on the play, then stole second base. 

Adam Regensburg followed with a single to right field to score Schaffer and give the Ephs a lead. Nathan Michalski followed with a sacrifice fly for the two-run advantage. 

Williams added a run in the seventh when, with two outs, consecutive singles by Hatheway, Jack Roberts and Schaffer produced a 6-3 lead. 

Williams used eight pitchers in the win, the final one Tom Benz, who tossed two hitless innings of relief, striking out one, to earn the save. Lev Schechter earned the victory. 

The Ephs had nine hits in the victory, led by Hatheway, who was 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Cloud was 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored.
