CHAPMAN, CA — The Williams College baseball team ran into a pair of buzzsaws Saturday in Chapman Uiversity hurlers Tyler Peck and Mason Collins, who combined for a 3-hit shutout and a 9-0 Chapman victory.
The Ephs fell to 1-4 on their West Coast trip heading into a doubleheader at Whittier College Sunday beginning at 2 p.m.
The Panthers scored four unearned runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back. Andrew Mendonca and Aaron Wong each went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored to pace Chapman.
For the Ephs, Jack Roberts, Adam Regensburg and Erika Pappas each had one hit. Charlie Carpenter took the loss fo the Ephs, going the first four innings and allowing seven hits and five runs, only one earned, while walking two and striking out one. Nehemiah Wilson and Philip Barnett threw scoreless frames for Williams in relief.
Peck earned the win, striking out 12 over six innings whilre allowing three hits and not walking a batter. Collins finished up with three no-hit innings of relief. He also did not walk a batter and fanned two.
