HADLEY, MA — Williams College senior Doug Schaffer (New Haven, CT) has been chosen as the New England Small College Athletic Conference Player of the Week for play ending Sunday, March 30. It is the second consecutive week that Schaffer has earned the honor.
Schaffer batted .542, with five multi-hit games, and slugged .667 in a 7-0 week for the Ephs. He knocked out 13 hits, drove in 13 runs and scored seven times. In a win over St. Olaf he tripled to drive in three runs to give Williams a 9-8 lead and scored an insurance run to push the Ephs' lead 10-8 in the bottom of the eighth. In the opening game of the series against Colby, he hit a two-run single to give Williams a 2-0 lead in the first inning and drove in another run in the bottom of the third to give the Ephs a lead they would not relinquish on the way to a 6-3 victory.
Schaffer currently leads the NESCAC, and the Ephs, in RBI with 30 through the games he has played. He is currently batting .571 with an .812 slugging percentage.
Williams (12-1) opens the New England portion of its schedule Friday at NESCAC West Division rival Amherst. First pitch is slated for 3:30 p.m.
