Sr. Captain Doug Schaffer Named First Team Google Cloud Academic All-American

WILLIAMSTOWN, MASS. -- Williams College senior first baseman and captain Doug Schaffer has been accorded Google Cloud Academic All-America First Team Honors in a vote by the nation's Sports information Directors.

Schaffer, an economics major, owns a 3.88 cumulative GPA. In May he was named to the District I Google Cloud Acadmic All-Region I First Team.

He is the first Eph to earn Academic All-America honors in baseball since Mike Gardner was a Second Team honoree in 1996. Schaffer is the

first Eph baseball player to earn First Team Academic All-America honors.

This spring Schaffer recorded a career year and helped lead the Ephs to the NESCAC West title and an appearance in the NESCAC Tournament.

Schaffer led NESCAC in batting with a .412 average and drove in 47 runs in 34 game and he was named the NESCAC Player of the Year.

His 47 RBI this spring exceeded his total RBI in his first three years. Schaffer's on base percentage this season was .425 and he registered a slugging percentage of .595.

Of Schaffer's 54 hits this year 18 went for extra bases: 12 doubles and six triples.

He posted a career batting average of .331 and totaled 25 doubles, 10 triples, and belted one home run, while driving in 85 runs.
