WILLIAMSTOWN, MA — Williams College junior middle infielder Eric Pappas (Providence, R.I.) was named a preseason All-American honorable mention by D3 Baseball and the NCBWA recently.
As part of his recognition, Pappas is slotted as one the six best shortstops and second baseman in the nation. Pappas is coming off his sophomore campaign in which he split time between second base alongside shortstop and NESCAC defensive player of the year Kellen Hathaway, and shortstop when Hatheway was injured. He led the team in at bats (139), hits (57), and on base percentage (.482). Pappas was the lead off hitter for the team, batting .410 on the season. Pappas has a career batting average over .400, after hitting .411 over his first two seasons. Pappas was recognized as All-NESCAC and All-New England First Team selection this past year and is the only NESCAC player awarded a 2020 preseason All-America distinction.
"Eric had an outstanding year last season as a sophomore splitting time in the middle of our infield," said Ephs' head coach Bill Barrale. "We look forward to building off of that this spring. He is an asset both offensively and defensively and the perfect guy for us to mold our line-up around."
Pappas will be a crucial part of the Eph offensive attack this upcoming season. The Ephs went 24-11 in 2019, winning the NESCAC West title and posting one win in the conference tourney before being eliminated.
