Matt Colbert joined the Eph staff in the fall of 2018 after serving two years as a graduate assistant coach at Elmira College, while pursuing a Master’s degree in Management.
Prior to Elmira Colbert was a graduate assistant on the baseball coaching staff at Lake Erie College (NCAA DII), where he was in charge of the team’s strength program, advance
scouting, and recruiting.
In 2015 Colbert coached at Pomona-Pitzer working primarily with the pitchers. He helped the team significantly lower its earned-run average, which resulted ina 12-win improvement
over the previous season. He also developed strength-training programs and assisted in recruiting.
From 2012-2014 Colbert served as a head coach of the Upstate Chill 18U baseball program, a high school age travel and showcase team. In 2015 he was the head coach of the Syracuse Jr.
Chiefs in the New York Collegiate Baseball League. The team was comprised of college players from 15 different institutions throughout the country. The Chiefs advanced to the Eastern Division Championship Series.
Colbert began his undergraduate coursework at SUNY Cortland, where he was a two-year member of the varsity baseball program. He later transferred to Ithaca College, where he pitched
for the Bombers’ team that won the 2013 New York Regional Championship and appeared in the NCAA Division III College World Series.
At Ithaca, Colbert made 15 appearances out of the Bombers’ bullpen,amassing 23 strikeouts in 21.2 innings of work.
Colbert graduated from Ithaca in 2014 with a degree in Communications and concentrations in Television and Radio. He earned a Master’s degree in Management from Ithaca in the spring of 2018.
