HADLEY, MA – Williams College junior safety Dan O'Mara (Allison Park, PA/Hampton HS) has been named the NESCAC Football Defensive Player of the Week for his role in the Ephs 29-21 win over Trinity College on Saturday at home on Weston Field.
With the win the Ephs improved to 2-0 on the year and are tied for first place with archrival Amherst, while Trinity fell to 1-1. The win also snapped a 3-game losing streak for the Ephs versus Trinity, giving them a 36-32-1 lead in the all-time series.
O'Mara led an Eph defense that shutdown the high-powered Trinity attack, keeping the Bantams off the scoreboard in the first half. He led the Ephs defense by posting a team-high 11 tackles, eight of which were solos.
O'Mara also picked off one Trinity pass, returning it for four yards, and he batted down another Trinity attempt.
This marks the second week in a row that an Eph defender has been recognized by NESCAC, as senior LB Pat Barren (Worthington, OH) shared the honors in the first week.
This Saturday the Ephs will hit the road and travel to Lewiston, Maine where they will face the Bates Bobcats (1-1) at 1:00 p.m.
