24th Meeting

Bates College Bobcats (1-1)

Vs.

Williams College Ephs (1-1)

1:00 PM

Saturday, Oct. 8th, 2011

Weston Field

Williamstown, MA

SERIES:  Began in 1988.  Williams holds a commanding 22-1 lead.  The 2003 season saw the only Bobcat win over the Ephs, as they snapped a string of 15 straight losses with a 10-7 victory on Weston Field.

Last year Eph senior QB Patt Moffitt threw for 280 yards and three TDs to lead the Ephs to a 41-0 win on Garcelon Field at Bates.

The two squads have gone into overtime just once in 23 meetings, a 17-14 Williams victory at Garcelon Field in 2000.

Williams has scored at least 24 points in every meeting except the overtime win in 2000, the 2003 loss, and in an 8-7 victory in 2005.

COACHES:  Aaron Kelton (9-1) is in his second year at the helm of the Ephs. Kelton was the first Eph head football coach to debut with a perfect season (8-0-0) in 2010, when he led the Ephs to the Little Three and NESCAC titles, while earning NESCAC Coach of the Year honors.

Kelton is the first African American head football coach at Williams and in NESCAC.

Kelton is 1-0 vs. Bates

Mark Harriman (24-82) is in his 14th season as head coach of the Bobcats.  Harriman also serves as the quarterbacks' coach, after functioning as the team's defensive coordinator and/or linebacker coach for the 12 seasons.  He also serves as the assistant director of the college's athletics program.

Harriman has won two CBB (Colby-Bates-Bowdoin) titles in his head coaching tenure.

Harriman is 1-12 vs.  Williams.

AWARDS:  Two members of the Bates team were honored for their roles in the Bobcats' 28-9 win over Tufts last Saturday. Sr. LB Brett McAllister had two sacks, two pass break-ups, and two INTs and also contributed five tackles to a defensive effort that limited the Jumbos to just 18 yards rushing. McAllister was named the NESCAC Defensive Player of the Week.

Sr. RB Patrick George collected the NESCAC Special Teams Player of the Week award for amassing 55 yards on two kickoff returns, scoring a TD, scoring a two-point conversion, and rushing for 84 yards on 22 carries.
