HADLEY, MA – Williams College senior WR and kick returner Darren Hartwell (North Reading, MA) was named the NESCAC Special Teams Player of the Week for his role in the Ephs' 34-26 win at Hamilton College on Saturday.
Hartwell returned the opening kickoff 90 yards for a TD and on three kickoff returns Saturday he totaled 138 yards (46 yards/return). Four times Hartwell returned a punt in the contest, totaling an additional 73 yards (18.3/return).
Hartwell racked up 297 all-purpose yards versus the Hamilton Continentals.
In addition to his return yardage Hartwell also hauled in six passes for an additional 86 yards and one TD. His 38-yard TD catch upped his career total to 19 and established a Williams record.
Hartwell has tied the single game TD catch mark at Williams twice with three. He owns the record for the longest punt return for a TD – 77 yards. He needs four more punt returns to secure that record and he already has the most punt return yards in a season (418) and a career.
He also holds Eph records for most kickoffs returned (44) and yards (1,004).
Hartwell is a four-year letterman in football and this spring will letter for a fourth year in baseball, where he is an outfielder.
Next up for the Ephs is their Homecoming tilt versus Little Three foe Wesleyan this Saturday on Weston Field at 1:00 PM.
