WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – Williams College junior defensive lineman/LB Austin Thomas (Anaheim, CA) has been named to the District I All-Academic Team in a vote by the region's Sports Information Directors.
Thomas was a key member on the defensive side of the ball, helping the 6-3 Ephs go to a plus six in wins from the previous season. The last time Williams went plus six in wins a season was back in 1919 when the Ephs went 6-2 after going 0-2 in the shortened 1918 season.
Playing in all nine games Thomas registered 39 tackles on the year, including 21 solos. He notched 6.5 tackles for a loss, 2.5 sacks and broke up one pass for an Eph defense that allowed 18.2 points a game in the first NESCAC 9-game season..
"Austin is a hard worker and very coachable," noted Eph head coach Mark Raymond. "He has the strength and speed to play on the defensive line and behind the line."
In his Eph career Thomas has appeared in 24 games and recorded 67 tackles, (37 solos), 16 tackles for a loss (9 solos), five sacks (3 solos) and he has broken up one pass.
Thomas is majoring in economics.
By virtue of his selection to the District I All-Academic Team Thomas will now appear on the ballot for Academic All-America consideration.
