WILLIAMSTOWN, MA --Williams College field hockey improved to 2-0 on the year with a 3-0 win over Mount Holyoke (2-2). After a scoreless first half, the Ephs surged ahead with three goals by junior forward Libby Dolan.
With a total 13 shots on goal from the Ephs, Holyoke goalie Morgan Turner had 10 saves on the day, while Williams' first half goalie junior Emma Santucci had 1 save on a shot from junior Chelsea Braz, which was the only shot by the Lyons in the game.
At the half, Williams' sophomore forward Abby Lloyd took over for Santucci in goal and ultimately picked up the win for the Ephs, even though she faced no shots.
The first goal by Dolan came at 41:57 and was an unassisted tally. Just under 4 minutes later, Dolan scored off a pass from Meredith Wright at 45:48. Her third goal came at 62:08, sneaking under the pad of Turner with assistance from Alex Bennett. Noting the success of her junior forward, Eph head coach Alix Barrale stated, "Today Libby did a great job finding the back of the net and her persistence that started in the Trinity game really payed off."
The Williams defense played strongly, and when asked about her team's defensive performance, Barrale commented, "We didn't come out with great intensity but the defense did a nice job of doing the all of the little things and we got or offense going in the second half."
The Ephs next match-up will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. when they ply a NESCAC game at Colby.
