The first half began with strong shots by senior Alex Bennett and junior Julia Cochran, battled off by Pioneer goalie Cameo Tietje, but it was Dolan who netted the first goal of the game at 18:04. Eph coach Alix Barrele noted "Once we got that first goal, our confidence shot up and we were really able to pour it on offensively and keep the ball in our favor." The Ephs played a strong offensive first half, tallying 9 penalty corners and allowing only one penalty corner for the Pioneers.
At the half, the Ephs had 8 shots on goal with 6 saves by Pioneer goalie Tietje and Eph goalie Emma Santucci defended no shots from the Smith offense, but picked up the win for the Ephs. Sophomore Abby Lloyd took over for Santucci in the second half with 2 well-played saves and no goals allowed.
In the second half, the Ephs quickly attacked with a 39:57 goal by Cochran assisted by Bennett. Williams totaled 3 shots on goal, 2 defended by goalie Tietje. The Ephs kept strong through the back half of the game, forcing another 5 penalty corners.
The Ephs next game will be a NESCAC conference game Saturday at home against Amherst at 11:00am.
