Middlebury, VT – The Williams College Ephs (11-4, NESCAC 6-3) faced the Middlebury Panthers (13-2, NESCAC 9-1) in the final regular season of the year. The Ephs have had a very successful season and hope to carry that momentum into the playoffs.
Williams came out firing, immediately putting pressure on the Middlebury defense. Williams got the first tally on the day off the stick of junior Libby Dolan who scored off the rebound of her own shot. That score was Libby Dolan's 17th of the year.
A few minutes later Middlebury leveled the scoring with a goal from Lauren Schweppe off of the penalty corner sent in from Audrey Quirk and laid off by Grace Jennings. After a lot of back and forth action, Middlebury took the lead at 12:19 with a goal from Annie Leonard and added another by Emma Johns.
William's picked up the pressure and had several good offensive looks including several crosses and a pair of penalty corners. The Ephs added a second goal of the game off the stick of senior Hannah Goodrick during a scramble after the Ephs third penalty corner of the game.
Middlebury responded quickly with a goal of their own by Erin Nicholas.
At the end of the half, Williams goalie sophomore Abby Lloyd had 2 saves and Middlebury keeper had 1 save.
The second half started out with a back and forth battle for the first goal of the second half. At 43:21 Middlebury applied some pressure on the Ephs defense with a pair of penalty corners, but Abby Lloyd stopped both with a couple of saves to alleviate the pressure and get Williams on the break.
Middlebury had 2 goals in the second half, one by Grace Jennings and another by Erin Nicholas.
At the end of the game, Abby Lloyd had 7 saves and Abby Furdak had 4. The final score was 6-2.
The Williams College Ephs will head to the playoffs this Saturday. Matchup TBD.
