Alex Bennett and Libby Dolan Earn All-New England West Honors

The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) announced today that two members of Alix Barrale's 2017 Williams team have earned All-New England West Region honors.

The Ephs finished the season 12-5 and advanced to the NESCAC Tournament semifinals before bowing to Trinity in overtime, 3-2. It was the first time an Eph team has won 12 games since the 2006 season.

Senior captain and forward Alex Bennett (Rye, NY) earned First Team recognition, while sophomore Libby Dolan (Barrington, RI) was named to the Second Team.

Earlier this fall both Bennett and Dolan were named to the All-NESCAC First and Second Team respectively. A dynamic scoring force for the Ephs, Bennett and Dolan had a combined 33 goals and 16 assists, totaling 82 points.

"Bennett and Libby pack quite a 1-2 punch," said Ephs' head coach Alix Barrale. "They are our dynamic duo in front of the goal. They work really well together and have both put up impressive numbers this season. They are both so deserving of this honor and I'm so proud of them."

This season, Bennett led the Ephs and finished second in the conference with 43 points, the first Eph to have a 40-point season since Tori Scott in 2003. She finished the season with 16 goals and 11 assists, both second on the Ephs. She also had three game-winning goals and finished the season with a flourish, scoring three goals and assisting on another when the Ephs defeated Amherst 4-2 in the NESCAC quarterfinals — a win that snapped a nine-game losing streak to their rivals — and scoring both Eph goals in the 3-2 loss to Trinity.

In addition, Bennett finished her career 7th all-time in points with 86, 9th all-time in goals (32) and 8th all-time in assists (22). She was previously a 2nd Team All-NESCAC selection and a 1st Team All-New England West Region selection in 2015 and is the Ephs first 1st Team All-NESCAC selection since Meera Sivalingam in 2011.

"Bennett is the real deal," Barrale noted. "Her incredible stick skills and offensive prowess make her hard to stop anywhere on the field. But she is also incredibly talented defensively winning the ball back in our offensive end."

Dolan ended her season with a team and career high 17 goals, which was the 3rd highest total in the conference. Her 39 points was second on the Ephs and third in the NESCAC and she has a whopping five game-winning goals this season.

Thus far in her career, Dolan has scored 23 goals and recorded 5 assists for a total of 51 points.

"Libby is outstanding at possessing the ball," Barrale said. "She is deceptive in the circle and consistently finishes in front of the net. She is clutch when the pressure is on."
