WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – Alix Barrale's Williams College field hockey team upset #1 and previously undefeated Middlebury on Tuesday 4-2 at home and that vaulted her team into the third seed in the upcoming NESCAC Tournament.
Williams (7-3 in NESCAC) will host sixth seeded Bowdoin (6-4 in NESCAC) on Sunday on Williamson Field at 1:00 PM.
This will be the second time this season the Ephs have faced Bowdoin on Williamson Filed. On October 14 the two teams played to a 1-1 tie through two overtime sessions and had to go to penalty strokes to decide the winner.
Williams' first year Kate Gregory scored the deciding penalty stoke that delivered the Ephs a 2-1 win.
The winner of the Williams –Bowdoin contest will advance to the NESCAC Semifinals at the site of the highest remaining sees.
The Ephs have two netminders who have virtually split the time played this season. Senior Emma Santucci starts and plays the first half and then junior Abby Lloyd takes over in the second half. Santucci has allowed 12 goals this season and has a save percentage of .806 and has made 50 saves in 15 games.
Lloyd in 14 games has registered 31 saves and sports a goals against average of 1.46 and her save percentage is .738. Santucci has 8 wins versus 1 loss this year and Lloyd is 3-3.
