Alix Barrale ’93 enters her 26th season as Head Coach of the Williams College field hockey team during the 2026-27 academic year.

She has compiled the most wins of any field hockey coach in program history, as she has gone 269-160 overall for a .627 winning percentage. Her teams have won or earned a share of 11 Little Three titles during her illustrious coaching career.

Barrale has led her squads to 14 or more wins seven times, including a trio of 15-win campaigns and one 16-win season. The 16 victories during the 2024 season are the most in a single season in program history, while that team also set a program record in single-season NESCAC victories (9).

She has powered the Ephs to 11 NCAA Division III Tournament appearances, reaching the national stage in each of her first seven seasons from 2000-06 and the past four years from 2022-25. The group reached the program's first-ever Final Four in 2022, and then repeated the feat again during the 2024 season. Barrale's teams have advanced to the Elite Eight on the national stage four separate times.

During her first six years from 2000-05, the Ephs reached the NESCAC title game in six consecutive years, and then the team reached the conference championship again during the 2023 season. From 2001-04, Williams won 3-of-4 NESCAC crowns.

Barrale was named the NESCAC Coach of the Year in 2001, 2004 and 2024. Additionally, she earned National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) New England Region Coach of the Year honors in 2002. Barrale has coached 21 All-Americans at Williams, with nine student-athletes earning the honor on multiple occasions. In total, there has been 32 All-American honors given to Ephs during her time in Williamstown, Massachusetts.

During the 2025 season, Kiki Higgins '26 and Pilar Torres '26 earned NFHCA Division III All-America First Team laurels. The Ephs advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament and won at least one game on the national stage for the fourth consecutive season.

Higgins earned NFHCA All-America First Team laurels, while Torres and Ellie Smith '28 were named to the Second Team in the 2024 season. At the end of the 2022 campaign, Emily Batchelor '23 took home NFHCA Region II Player of the Year accolades, while earning First Team All-American and National Offensive Player of the Year status from Synapse Sports.

Batchelor and Liz Welch '22 were named NFHCA All-Americans in 2021, while Welch also earned Second Team All-American laurels from Synapse Sports. In the 2019 season, Emma Ticknor '20 earned All-American honors from the NFHCA.

As the head coach at Denison University over four years, Barrale complied a record of 50-28 (.641 win percentage). During her 29 years coaching Division III field hockey, Barrale has tallied a cumulative record of 319-188 (.629).

Prior to returning to Williams, Barrale served as the head field hockey coach and head women's lacrosse coach at Denison for four years. In her last two years, Barrale guided Denison to a 30-10 mark, with a record of 16-4 in her final season (12-0 in North Coast Athletic Conference). Barrale's Denison teams were 20-2 in NCAC play during her final two years. 

Barrale played field hockey and lacrosse at Williams under Chris Mason. Barrale was the all-time leader in points for the Ephs at the time of her graduation, earned All-American honors and was invited to the U.S. Olympic "A" Training Camp.

Barrale served as the Ephs' interim head women’s lacrosse coach for one season in 2000 and did so again during the 2026 season. The 2026 team advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the seventh time in program history and first time since the 2014 season. The 2026 Ephs won three games on the national stage and reached the Elite Eight for the fourth time in program history.
