WILLIAMSTOWN, MA -- Mike Maker’s Williams men’s basketball team (26-1) and winners of the 2010 NESCAC Championship have been awarded a first round bye in the NCAA Tournament and will face the winner of Thursday’s first round game between Bridgewater State and Maine-Farmington on Saturday (time to be determined) in Chandler Gym.

The Ephs will be making their 11th appearance in the NCAA Tourney and they sport an overall mark of 26-9 (.743).

Information on game time and ticket sales will be announced here when received.

Williams, Texas-Dallas (23-5) and Whitworth (CA) at 25-2 are the three teams receiving first round byes in the 61-team field. Somewhat surprising that two-time defending champion and number one-ranked Washington University (MO) did not receive a first round bye.

Bridgewater State, the MASCAC champions, sports a record of 19-7 and they will host 14-11 Maine-Farmington, the North Atlantic Conference champions, Thursday for the right to advance to play Williams in Chandler Gym on Saturday.

The Ephs have won 17 games in a row and are led by senior co-captain Blake Schultz 18.4 ppg, sophomore guard James Wang 16.9 ppg and junior Troy Whittington 10.7 ppg.

Williams and Middlebury (24-3) are the only NESCAC teams in the 2010 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.
